Yes. In the 20th episode of Season 3, Esther used a spell tobind Elena's life to Alaric so once she died, so would he. In theseason finale, Matt and Jeremy decided to get her out of MysticFalls and Matt told her that Damon wasn't with the others and thatshe must choose which Salvatore brother she wanted to be with. Shelater phoned Damon to tell him that she was heading back to MysticFalls and that Stefan came into her life at a time when she neededsomeone and maybe it would have been different if she had met theelder Salvatore brother first.
Meanwhile, Alaric finds Damon at the storage facilty where he'shidden Klaus' body. Alaric wasn't fooled by the gang's attempt totrick him and stakes Klaus with the white oak dagger. However, noneof the gang feel any different but it transpires that Bonnie used aspell which allowed Klaus to possess Tyler.
Damon and Alaric fight. A flashback to the night Elena's parentsdied shows her meeting Damon for the first time. They talk and whenElena's parents' car approaches Damon compels her not to revealhe's in Mystic Falls.
Rebekah phones Stefan to tell him that Elijah and she are tiredof running and have decided that the only way to get rid of Alaricis to kill Elena. As Matt and Elena are heading towards WickeryBridge, they suddenly spot Rebekah and swerve to avoid her. Matt'struck plunges into the river and in the midst of flashbacks toElena's parents' car being submerged in the water, Stefan arrivesto save the day. In the past, he's shocked when he sees Elena forthe first time as she looks like Katherine and in the present,Elena signals at him to save Matt.
As Damon and Alaric fight, Alaric suddenly grows weaker as Elenalooses consciousness. They both die at the same time and Damoncries in disbelief. As Elena's lifeless body lies in the morguewith Stefan by her side, Damon arrives at the hospital. Meredithtells him that when Jeremy brought her in earlier that evening itwas discovered that she had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage so shegave Elena vampire blood to speed up the healing process. Back inthe morgue, Elena suddenly wakes up gasping for air.
She will complete her transition in the Season 4 premiere.

In the book she becomes a vampire.
But Nobody know if she becomes a vampire in the programme i dontthink even the producers know yet.- But i think she probaly willbecome one, but how it will happen will probaly be different fromthe book! usaully is.

yes she dose she does it with the vampire and she becomes a vampire i read all the books its like a dumb version of twilight ??
In "The Struggle" she becomes a Vampire and dies, then comes back in "Nightfall." They might change her or they might not. By the way Twilight came up in 2005 and The Vampire Diaries was out in the 90's.
they might not change her in the show though.. and vampire diaries came out way before twilight did... if anything, twilight copied vampire diaries.

I know that she changes in the book series, which are way older then the twilight series BTW, and if they are going to change her it will be wen the series comes back because she needs 2 be a vamp, die then come back and defeat Klaus. *Sorry if i just gave spoilers if ure reading the books which were published in the 90's and are a way better version of Twilight)

Actually... Twilight, the books came out before The vampire diaries, so nice fail on saying Twilight copied the vampire diaries. Educate yourself before you TRY to act like you know what you're talking about. Anyways... twilight is a joke, as is this series.. simple as that.

YES! I've read all of the books and seen all of the shows upuntil now. I follow all of the cast and director blogs so yes, inthe tv show Elena will become a vampire. It'll happen near the endof season 3!
In the very last episode of season 3 her car drives off of abridge so in season 4 she actually becomes a vampire but thenbecomes a human blood addict and has to be killed by Katherine byhaving a steak drove through her heart so Elena becomes and vampirebecause a human blood addict and then gets killed by Katherine by asteak being driven through her heart

in the book, yes, she drowns in a river with vampire blood inher and comes back, but we have still to find out if she does inthe tv series
